Diane Roblin

Born in Buffalo NY, and a classically trained pianist, she continued her music education at York University. Her studies were eclectic and wide-ranging including electronic music, ethnomusicology, jazz improvisation, and classical piano. She attended the Karl Berger/Ornette Coleman intensive workshop in Woodstock, and NYC playing with Dave Holland, Jack deJohnette, Lee Konitz, and other notable musicians. Diane lead and played in diverse bands and clubs. Currently, she leads and writes for Reconnect, a funk-jazz band which encourages groove and energy, and various progressive free improv groups. Diane’s history of solo piano concerts at Toronto’s top concert venues continue to provide a stage for Diane to express her own unique voice. Her bands include Toronto's finest players: Jeff King, Scott Marshall, Russ Boswell, Roger Travassos, Sly Juhas, Joel Haynes, Chris Lesso, Howard Spring, Bob Cohen, Kyle Brenders, Joe Sorbara, Scott Thomson, Heather Segger, Mark Segger, Bob Brough, Michael Stewart, Clayton Johnston, Jack McFadden, Kieran Overs, Nick Fraser, Rob Clutton and many others. Reconnect and Two Ninety Two have been a part of the Audiopollination Series, Somewhere There-Array Series, Toronto Jazz Society Concerts, 416 Festival, Alliance Francais Cultural Season, Oscar Jazz at Hart House, University of Toronto. Diane has performed internationally at Ronnie Scott's in London UK and in Cannes, Antibes and Juan les Pins, south of France. Diane plays high energy music from the heart.

Diane has recently formed a new 5 piece band, RECONNECT, which has been receiving much attention. The band came together to explore Diane's compositions - an original mixture of jazz, fusion and funk which encourages the players to go "out of the box". She also leads TWO NINETY TWO, a free improvisational band which uses her composed themes as a catalyst for extended expression. The bands include many of Toronto's finest musicians: Jeff King, Scott Marshall, Joel Haynes, Sly Juhas, Roger Travassos, Chris Lesso, Russ Boswell, Jordon O'Conner, Bob Cohen, Howard Spring, Kyle Brenders, Joe Sorbara, Heather Segger, Mark Segger, Nick Fraser, Rob Clutton, Jordan O'Conner and Scott Thomson. Reconnect and Two Ninety Two have performed at the Musideum, the Tranzac Club, Gate 403, The Monarch, Silence, The Toronto Jazz Society with upcoming gigs at Alliance Francaise Cultural Programme and the Oscar Jazz Series at Hart House. Her performances and have been a part of the Somewhere There series, 416 Festival and the Audiopollination series. Currently, Diane is a member of the Toronto Improvisation Orchestra (TIO), Association of Improvising Music (AIM), and enjoys playing with the Woodchoppers Association. She has performed internationally at clubs such as Ronnie Scott's in London UK and in Cannes, Antibes and Juan les Pins, south of France.
