A Merrie Christmas To You

Yes, it's that time of year again, one when artists in a wide range of genres will be releasing (or reissuing) their versions of seasonal favourites. More credible than most such offerings is Blue Rodeo's first-ever Xmas record (and 14th studio album!), A Merrie Christmas to You. The veteran roots-rockers mix things up nicely on an album recorded live off the floor in just a week in their T.O. studio The Woodshed. That process adds to the intimate warm feel of the disc. Some well-chosen and well-performed covers (Gordon Lightfoot's “Song For A Winter’s Night” and Joni's "River" are highlights) nestle alongside standards (“Oh Come All Ye Faithful” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”) and a strong new Jim Cuddy tune, "Home To You This Christmas". A sweet seasonal treat.

Blue Rodeo play The Sanderson Centre in Brantford, ON, Nov. 27-28.
