As a member of acclaimed combos Creaking Tree String Quartet and Foggy Hometown Boys, string wizard Andrew Collins is well known to Canadian folk and bluegrass fans. His 2011 solo instrumental album Cats and Dogs notched a JUNO nomination, and Collins now heads an acoustic trio, joined by James McEleney and Mike Mezzatesta. A Play On Words is their highly accomplished debut album. Their sound is self-described as "chamber grass", an adventurous fusion of bluegrass, folk, jazz and classical elements. This eclecticism is shown via versions of compositions by Nick Drake, Bill Evans and Bach, while Collins adds strong original compositions. The Trio launched the disc at Toronto's Hugh's Room recently.
