Abandon Earth

How many Canadian funk and concept albums can you name? Not a lot, right. Well this rare genre is given new life by Abandon Earth, the new album from Vancouver funkateers Five Alarm Funk. The ten-piece group have a muscular horn-driven sound, one that has rock, jazz and world music as well as funk components. Thematically, the album, in the band's own words, "takes a sonically explosive view on the destruction of the planet by a giant robotic enemy force, a la War of the Worlds." Last year, Five Alarm Funk’s fourth album, Rock the Sky, was nominated for ‘Instrumental Album of the Year’ at the Junos.

FAF launched the album at The Commodore recently, and have just started a cross-Canada tour. Check here for dates.
