American Science - Single

This week saw the release of Modern Records and Manimal Vinyl’s Making Patterns Rhyme: A Tribute to Duran Duran, a compilation of covers from the seminal new wave act. Three of the covers come from Canucks – Beliefs tackle "Sound of Thunder", Louise Burns takes a go at “Land”, and Austra spins “American Science”. Originally released on 1986’s Notorious, the latter Toronto trio ditches the horns, opting to embellish with layers upon layers of synths. It seems like a fast follow-up to their b-side EP Habitat, released only weeks ago, but the covers disc was originally scheduled for a February release and got pushed back, according to Pitchfork. All proceeds of the disc’s sale go to Amnesty International.

Austra is currently on a European tour but will return for the Squamish Festival in BC August 9, and will play Montreal at SAT Oct 17, and Le Cercle in Quebec City October 18.
