Last week soulful songstress Melanie Durrant was up for a JUNO for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for her track "Four Seasons". No disgrace in losing to The Weeknd's "Often" in that category, and she re-emerges strongly with new full-length Anticipation. The big-production sound of new single "By Your Side" and "Four Seasons" suggest Adele doing a Bond theme song, and the video for the former track has a real Bond vibe too. There's a real nice variety to the tempos and moods on the album, boosted by the use of different top producers. That list includes Americans Allstar (Madonna) and Ced Solo (Kelly Rowland) and Canadian aces Kuya Productions, (Slakah The) Beatchild, and Mo’Jointz. Durrant has also earned a Much Music Video Award (for earlier single “Where I’m Going”) and previous JUNO nominations in the Reggae Recording category (2013) and, last year, for R&B Recording for "Gone" (also reprised here). An artist who has paid her dues, she deserves to breakthrough with this excellent second full-length album.
