Art of Love
Soulful singer/songwriter Lori Nuic first attracted notice by winning a prize at famed Toronto urban music talent showcase Honey Jam back in 2005. She followed that with two well-received albums, 2007’s Red Book Chronicles and 2012’s Flaws of Attraction (it helped her win a 2012 Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Pop), and she's now back with a strong new mini-album, Art of Love. Nuic has an eclectic musical style that incorporates R&B, soul, reggae, rock and pop strains (her preferred tag is alternative soul), and she has a bright voice that, to us, suggests a more soulful Gwen Stefani, as on sweet single "Dark Side of the Moon". Of note: Nuic has performed alongside artists like Simply Red, Arrested Development, and Maceo Parker, toured Europe, and recently sang in front of 20,000 people in South America.
