Big Black Coat - Single

Close to five years on from the release of It’s All True, and Polaris-nominated electro duo Junior Boys have returned, announcing the release of a new disc, Big Black Coat, due for a February 2016 release. Producers Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus have certainly kept busy in the interim though, offering up solo tracks and producing similarly-minded artists, such as Jessy Lanza. The pair seems reinvigorated on the first single and seven-minute-long title track, “Big Black Coat”. Taking a nod from the Detroit techno scene, they employ chilly synths, fat rounded bass lines, and jittery vocal cut-ups to maximum effect. This is the thinking listener’s brand of dance music, intended to be contemplative and far from ephemeral. Welcome back boys.

Junior Boys live dates include Vancouver on March 10 at the Imperial, London ON on April 8 at London Music Hall, and Toronto on April 9 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre (all dates with Jessy Lanza). Head to the band’s website for more info.
