Blessed - Single
Prepare to have your face melted (or at least thoroughly singed). After a couple years out of the spotlight, Juno-winning metal-meets-noise-rock trio KEN Mode have announced the release of their sixth full-length album, Success, due June 16 through New Damage Records. It was recorded to analog tape with the legendary fuzz-master producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Pixies) and according to a press release, “is the most rock and roll effort the band has ever put forth”. Kick-off single “Blessed” is no less vitriolic than earlier efforts, driven by a chugging, overdriven bass line and a spoken-word aural assault. NPR’s faith in the second offering, “These Tight Jeans”, the band’s call-out on ‘hater’ culture, could be a sign that these Winnipeggers could break even wider online (although they’ve long been a fixture on the hardcore scene). Brutal, unflinching, and will make you want to dig up classic Melvins records.
KEN Mode Canadian live dates include June 16 in Toronto at Parts & Labour, June 17 in Laval QC at Turbo Haus, and June 26 in Winnipeg at The Goodwill. Head to the band’s Facebook for more details.
