Can't Do Without You - Single
Since emerging under the moniker of Manitoba (which had to change due to an impending lawsuit), Dan Snaith’s become one of Canada’s finest and most proflic experimental and electronic composers. As the mastermind behind the project Caribou, he was handpicked to open for Radiohead, and won the 2008 Polaris Prize. This week he’s finally announced the follow-up to Swim, Caribou’s 2010 Polaris-shortlisted record; Our Love will be available October 7 through Merge Records. It will feature appearances from regular collaborator Owen Pallett and up-and-comer Jessy Lanza. The first taste is new lush single “Can’t Do Without You”, a spiraling, ultra-rhythmic dance track that cleverly expands into psychedelia around the 1:30 mark. According to a press release, it’s “formed around a mixture of digital pop production, hip hop-inspired beats, muted house basslines, and a love of shuffling garage”. An all-around gorgeous offering, and suggestive of an equally inventive album to come.
