Just two years after forming, eclectic and bilingual folk-rockers Chic Gamine won a 2009 JUNO for Roots Album of the Year for their self-titled debut. They've since earned a fan base in the U.K., Europe and U.S. as well. Now they've come up with one of the more credible and enjoyable Christmas records of the year, the EP Christmas Vol. 1. Recorded on Hornby Island and in Winnipeg, it mixes some new originals and seasonal classics, with the quintet's signature of strong vocal harmonies to the fore. The EP title suggests there'll be more to come in this vein. Let's hope so.
