Soulful songstress Julie Crochetiere first tasted platinum success as part of Sugar Jones, but don't hold that against her. She has paid her dues since, developing into a first-rate singer of jazz and soul and a skilled songwriter (nine originals are featured here). She delves into Adele territory on Counting Dreams, her fourth solo album. The focus track ballad "The Better Part Of Me" showcases the emotional power of her voice. A string quartet adds sonic richness, with strong production by Tim Gowdy (Coral Egan, The Barr Brothers). The album was launched with a performance at Toronto's Heliconian Club on May 2, and she plays Le Lion D'or in Montreal on May 14. The disc will be a real contender.
