Double Barrel - Single
In their ongoing monthly single series, Bill King and his Rhythm Express have shown impeccable taste in song selection. The talent-heavy crew have put a fresh spin on such classics as "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" and "The Ghetto", and they now come up with another winner in "Double Barrel," a true gem from the early days of ska/reggae. It was a No. 1 hit in Jamaica and the U.K. back in 1971 for Dave and Ansell Collins, thanks to the infectious vibe of the predominantly instrumental cut. King explains that "summer is the perfect time to cut back on the big sound and get to the root bottom of the band ... No vocals, no horns - just the four keeping it simple and open". That fab four comprises Everton "Pablo” Paul - drums, Shane “Shaky J" Forrest – recording engineer and guitar, Jesse “Dubmatix” King – bass and Bill King - piano/organ and producer. The result is a sweet midsummer treat. Our sources tell us to expect another reggae classic next month, this time with an ace guest singer.
