Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs, and Divine Fits fame has yet another band to add to his credits – electronic dance project Operators. Filled out by Divine Fits drummer Sam Brown and Devojka, the trio played their first show during CMW 2014 and sent critics into a feverish tizzy. The band’s landed at Last Gang Records (a good fit!) for their debut release, EP 1. The five-track set isn’t so far removed from Boeckner’s other projects, but noticeably warmer with a genuine affection for pop melodies. Organic and inviting, it’s synthpop done right. Let’s just hope the frontman doesn’t jump ship for another band – it’ll be interesting to see where they could take things from here.
Operators is heading out on an extensive August/September tour with David Letterman’s favourite act, Future Islands. The only Canadian date on that tour is in Montreal September 2 at La Tulipe, followed by headlining sets in Toronto September 7 at Horseshoe Tavern, Hamilton ON on September 13 for Supercrawl, and October 23 in Halifax at the Marquee Club.
