Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream - Single
The hype over alt-icon Grimes’ first album post-breakout hit Visions has been absolutely huge – with the likes of EW and The New Yorker profiling her rise, she’s now far past underground one-to-watch status and verging onto pop star. It’s been announced that Art Angels will be the title of the heavily awaited disc, due digitally November 6 and physically December 11, and will be adorned with some weirdo cover artwork (drawn by Claire Boucher herself). The first two singles, “Flesh Without Blood” and “Life in the Vivid Dream”, are now streaming, released as a single high-concept video (naturally directed, edited, coloured, and art-directed by Boucher too) replete with multiple costume changes and lots of fake blood. Fans are sure to be divided about the new material – with big-scale choruses and pop-rock guitars thrown into the mix, it’s decidedly more commercial-leaning than before, albeit stamped with her unique presence. Expect the controversy to swell upon the album’s release.
Grimes will perform in Montreal on November 21 at Metropolis and in Toronto on November 22 at the Danforth Music Hall.
