Regina indie septet Library Voices made a name for themselves with ultra-sunny pop offerings, like 2011’s Summer of Lust. The band’s latest EP, For John, could be from an entirely different act altogether. Gone are the potent hooks and shimmering, glossy production, swapped for hazy vocals, fuzzy guitars, and a lo-fi sheen. It was recorded as an ode to their late friend and former Buffalo radio DJ John Farrell, which could account for the stylistic changes. It all works though, still replete with their signature clever lyrics, and as a neat slice of Canadiana rock.
Tour dates include June 20 + 21 in Edmonton at the Artery and Wunderbar respectively, July 25 + 26 in Bengough SK for Gateway Fest, August 28 in Toronto at the Horseshoe Tavern, August 29 in Guelph ON at E-Bar, and August 30 in Sarnia ON for Fest for Good. Details on the band’s website.
