A recent graduate from Humber College's music program in Toronto, singer/songwriter Claire Coupland emerges as a young artist of real potential on her new EP For You, a follow-up to 2014 debut album Lonely Heart. Her clear pure voice, fluent guitar work, and introspective songwriting bring early Joni Mitchell to mind as a reference point. Of note: A tutor at Humber was Rik Emmett of Triumph fame. He called her "a songwriter with clever creativity, and a singer with a warm, accessible style".
Coupland recently launched the EP at Holy Oak in Toronto. She plays shows in Victoria (her hometown) and Cowichan Bay, BC, in mid-December and is at Habits in Toronto on Jan. 28. Check her site for details.
