Grassy Roads, Wandering Feet
The four members of The Bombadils come from across Canada, and they first connected over a love of folk music at McGill University in Montreal. They quickly honed their own sound and the quality of their debut album, 2012's Fill Your Boots, helped bring them a coveted artist residency at the Banff Centre. Their strong sophomore outing Grassy Roads, Wandering Feet now shows that stint has paid dividends. Three members, Anh Phung, Sarah Frank and Luke Fraser, write separately, adding variety to the material, and they also adapt traditional songs. Crisp instrumentation and clear vocals are signatures.
They launched the album at Hugh's Room in Toronto earlier this week and also played Folk Alliance. The Bombadils head off on an extensive Australasian tour in March and April. It makes sense they'd visit New Zealand, given that their name is derived from a character in Lord Of The Rings.
