Two years ago, we were very taken with Wreck Of A Smile, the debut EP from melodic and psychedelia-tinged rockers Grounders. Their charm now reasserts itself on a self-titled first full-length album, one whose sunny appeal perfectly fits the impending summer. The band made a fine choice of producer in David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Holy Fuck). As they note in a label press release, "he gives each song the bombastic, fried analog treatment he’s become known for". The new track "Secret Friend" has just topped CBC 3's chart, and there are many other airplay-ready cuts here.
Grounders have quickly earned fans and media supporters in the U.S. They begin a North American tour at Webster Hall in NYC on May 28, with appearances at NXNE and Sled Island on the sked. Check the band's website for more details.
