Surprise Party describe themselves as "a fuzzy psychedelic pop rock band", and new album Heart Of Love justifies that tag (we detect a surf-rock element in there too). It's a follow-up to last year's full-length debut, Animal Kingdom/Continents of the World. They do the genre proud via real spirited playing (the organ is a prominent element) and catchy songs. The new album is out digitally, on vinyl and as a limited edition cassette.
The band recently ventured east for seven dates, and they've also played at Saskatoon's MosoFest and Winnipeg's Big Fun Fest this year. Their next gig is at Winnipeg's Natural Cycle on Aug. 29. Word is their live shows are raucous and free-spirited.
