Yellowknife-based roots music singer/songwriter Leela Gilday first made a mark with 2002 debut Spirit World, Solid Wood, and earned Juno and Western Canadian Music Awards for her second album Sedzé. Her run of excellence continues on her new album, Heart of the People. A member of the Dene Nation, Gilday incorporates traditional sounds into her folk-based style and her powerful lyrics also reflect her northern roots. The album was produced by Murray Pulver (Doc Walker), and the purity of Gilday's voice shines in this setting. One notable guest is Tanya Tagaq. Gilday recently launched the CD with shows in Yellowknife and Toronto.
