Hearts on Fire
Hearts On Fire is the 16th studio album by popular blues-rocker Colin James, and it quickly emerges as one of the very best in a career now spanning 27 years. The Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame inductee and winner of six Juno awards (and 17 Maple Blues Awards!), James is proving the adage that bluesmen get better with age. The album was co-produced by James and long-time collaborator Colin Linden (Blackie and The Rodeo Kings), who adds typically fluent guitar. Other notable players include Willie Weeks, Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughan), and backing singers The McCrary Sisters. There's a nice dynamic range to the material, and James' voice and guitar work are both in fine fettle (it was no fluke he has won two Male Vocalist of the Year Junos). First single "Just A Little Love" is a rocker with a great groove, while the title cut is a gem with a steamy Southern feel. Look for this one when the next awards season comes around.
James will also embark on his first cross Canada tour since 2012, beginning at Halifax's Casino Nova Scotia on Feb. 27 and closing out in Edmonton's Winspear Aud on March 30. A month later he has an acoustic duo tour of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. For a full itinerary, go here.
