Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted
She is still not well known in anglo Canada, but young Acadian roots singer/songwriter Lisa LeBlanc has had a real impact in Quebec and France. Her 2012 self-titled debut scored platinum sales and helped her win ADISQ and Gamiq Awards (plus a Juno nomination). Heartaches and Time Well Wasted is her English-language debut, and time spent with it sure ain't wasted. The mini-album (six cuts) was inspired by an American road trip, and the gutsy-voiced Leblanc describes its sound as having "a folk-roots 'trash' vibe". The instrumental title cut has a spaghetti western twang to it, and opening song "You Look Like Trouble But I Guess I Do Too" is a sizzler. One genuinely exciting young talent.
LeBlanc begins an eleven-city cross-Canada tour at Ottawa's Ritual Nightclub on Nov. 13. Check her site for details.
