It's Decided

On the surface, a creative marriage between '60s/'70s pop hitmaker Andy Kim ("Sugar Sugar", "Rock Me Gently") and Broken Social Scene lynchpin Kevin Drew may seem an unlikely one, but Kim's new album It's Decided proves it to be a very satisfying union. Credit Kim with being open to new sounds and credit Drew with effective co-writing here and for building an impressive production sound around Kim's virile and dramatic vocals (assisting on production are Dave Hamelin of The Stills and Ohad Benchetrit of Do Make Say Think). Tracks like "Why Can't I Ever Find My Way" and "I've Been Here Before" are new baroque pop gems. Other notable songwriters contributing here include Kevin Hearn (Barenaked Ladies), John McEntire (Tortoise), Ron Sexsmith (a long-time Kim pal) and Jeff Barry (who co-wrote the album's first single, "Shoot 'Em Up Baby", back in 1968!).

A charismatic performer, Kim will appear with Drew at the Field Trip festival in Toronto, June 7.
