Upon listening to Little Mourning for the first time, you would be convinced that the chemistry between electro-duo Milk and Bone would be earned from years upon years of co-songwriting. Actually, the partnership of Camile Poliquin and Laurence Lafond-Beaulne was only formed a couple of years ago (thanks to the suggestion from the guys in Misteur Valaire) and the pairing was immediately effective. Now, on their debut album, the Montreal-based band delivers on an emotional and intimate eight-track set, gorgeously harmonizing atop stark, minimalist electro-R&B beats throughout. Coolly atmospheric and worth savoring. Little Mourning should appease fans of the xx, Purity Ring, and James Blake.
Live dates include April 16 in Ottawa at the National Arts Centre and several dates in QC through the spring. Details can be found at their Bandcamp.
