Love Soul - Single
The reflective track “Love Soul” didn’t make the cut on Majical Cloudz 2013 genre-defying Impersonator, but don’t discount it as your average b-side. On the band’s website, singer Devon Walsh explains:
“ ‘Love Soul’ was written during the time of many of the other songs on Impersonator but we decided to leave it off the album. It was a part of our set during our first shows. It was the only song I kept from a time when I was living in Northern California. I remember writing it at a cabin in the woods a few hours east of the Bay. I played it for the friends I was with and I think everyone, myself included, couldn’t really understand what it was.” A dissonant loop and repetitive vocals. As Matt [Otto] and I played it live it evolved slightly, so this is it.”
While the song feels like an unending, mesmerizing loop (that’s a good thing), the interactive music video is like a GIF of a similar nature – shots repeat over and over until the user clicks, then smoothly cuts to a different GIF. Neat trick from an already clever artist.
Majical Cloudz’ innovative approach to songcraft and digital interaction has lifted them back onto the NCM Emerging Chart this week, charting at #24.
