We've long been fans of Samantha Martin, owner of a voice that really is a force of nature and a skilled songwriter too. As she showed on 2012 album Samantha Martin and The Haggard, she's at home in a wide range of roots styles, but she hones in on soul, r 'n b and gospel on this new EP, Mississippi Sun. All five songs were recorded live off the floor in a single day at Lincoln County Social Club, and the backing vocals of Amoy and Ciceal Levy beef up the sound. Word is she's working on a full-length too. After Toronto and London dates in the next few months, Martin has some Western gigs in the summer. Ignore at your peril.
