New Ways: Music from the Documentary I Dream of Wires
For the new documentary I Dream of Wires, Toronto producer Solvent was commissioned to create an entirely modular synthesizer-based score. By using both vintage and new gear, he showcases a wide range of sounds achievable by patching in cables from module to module, from the classic Moogs of early electronic music to more recently built digital oscillators and noise sources. Not just tech for tech’s sake, there are solid grooves here, with futuristic melodies that envelop the listener in fuzz and classic synth warmth.
The “Hardcore Edition” of the DVD/Blu Ray is also available and features interviews with Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy), Gary Numan, and other luminaries of the synth movement.
