Night Eyes

Savvie is the nickname/stage name of singer/songwriter Savannah Leigh Wellman. She is known on the Vancouver scene as vocalist for folk-rockers Redbird, and she's now flying solo. Debut album Night Eyes shows her shining in a more rock-oriented style, one she terms "blues noir' and 'sex-rock'. Wellman has a sassy and sexy voice occasionally reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, and she has found a fine collaborator in producer/co-writer Matthew Rogers (The Harpoonist and The Axe Murderer). There are plenty of tunes here sounding ready for rock radio play ("Without You" and "Gravity", for example). The long closing track "The Tower" has an epic feel, with great dynamics, and is a clear indication of Savvie's strong potential. For a free dl of "Without You", go here

In the past week, Savvie has opened up Vancouver shows for Leighton Meester and Rah Rah. Check her site for future gigs.
