Fake Tears is a new synth-pop duo, but veteran singer-songwriters Larissa Loyva and Elisha May Rembold paid dues earlier in such bands as Choir Practice, P:ano, and Shimmering Stars. They're poised to make a mark with a strong full-length debut, Nightshifting, out on acclaimed indie label Mint Records. It features lushly atmospheric soundscapes and multi-layered female vocals, captured neatly by producer Jay Arner (himself a fine solo artist). There's a distinct '80s electro-pop vibe to the sound, and the album is already attracting very positive reviews. Vinyl lovers should note it has come out on mint green vinyl.
Fake Tears play Toronto's Holy Oak on Sept. 15, Pop Montreal on Sept. 16, and Vancouver's Media Club on Sept. 22.
