The third album from Ottawa, ON’s hip-hop artist Atherton isn’t a groundbreaking rap record, but it sounds like a personal one. There are references to Canada’s capital, personal strife, and heartbreak (check out the controversial, possibly misogynic “Hate Her Face”). Overall, the production is tight and impressive. Lead track “Kid On the Corner” has a catchy chorus and the occasional eclectic sample ranging from MC Hammer to The Beatles. Atheron is slowly building a following after playing lots of shows with and without his group, “The Leathers”, along with positive write-ups in NOW Magazine and Exclaim! Read an interview with him over at Ottawa Magazine. Also, make sure to check out the official video for 'Lights Out' here.
