The fact that the previous Yukon Blonde album, Tiger Talk, was nominated for a 2012 JUNO in the Alternative Album category is a mite misleading. To these ears, the indie rockers would have sounded mainstream back in the heyday of '70s and '80s FM rock, in a good way. They write superbly-crafted hook-filled and melodic songs, and on sparkling new disc On Blonde they skilfully integrate analog synths into their guitar-based sound, as on "Como" and "Confused". First single "Saturday Night" has already been a rock radio hit, and there's plenty more where that came from. They co-produced with Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain), with the mixing of Tony Hoffer (Beck, Foster The People) being the creamy icing on this sweet sonic confection.
The band has just begun an extensive North American tour, a mix of festival and club dates (they play The WayHome festival, July 24-26), followed by fall dates in Europe. Check their website for details.
