Vancouver electro duo Data Romance showed promise on their 2011 self-titled EP. In four succinct tracks, they managed to convey their original brand of digital mood and gloom. Other is Data's first album, with Ajay Bhattacharyya and Amy Kirkpatrick delivering 12 chill-vibed minimalist originals that display a surprising ear for melodic structure. Early single “Caves” has a ‘90s trip-hop feel affected with Portishead-esque detachment. The standout track, “She’s Been High”, is the distilled sound of a digital nightmare. “Can’t Keep Your Mind Off” is an iTunes Single of the Week, available for free for a limited time. The duo has already earned a rep in the UK with Filter, NME and the Beeb all early believers.
