Palm Wine Revisited
A couple of months ago, we praised "Apophenia", an unpredictable and dream-weaving single from Halifax-bred Toronto-based sister duo Tasseomancy. It was no one-off success track - Romi and Sari Lightman deliver the same thrills and mercurial flair on third full-length album, Palm Wine Revisited. Haunting melodies and harmonies, sparse electronic flourishes, and steel pan rhythms make for interesting arrangements, but the real adventure is in the song structures, which play with form, winding in ways unconventional to pop. The disc was admittedly influenced by This Mortal Coil’s It'll End in Tears, which explains the experimental and gothic touches.
Hear Tasseomancy’s enchanting new tunes live in Toronto on June 17 at the Mod Club for NXNE. Hopefully more Canadian dates will be scheduled soon. Follow the band on twitter for updates.
