Peace and Quiet - Single
Since the '90s heyday of Canadian indie rock heroes the Lowest Of The Low, that group's key creative force, Ron Hawkins, has remained prolific as a solo artist. As well as new recordings from a reunited LOTL, he has put out five discs under his own name, three records with his band The Rusty Nails, and, in 2012, a double disc with his new band The Do Good Assassins. These works have been majorly under-rated, but a new deal with dynamic label Pheromone Recordings will hopefully rectify that. His first disc for the label, Garden Songs, comes out on Feb. 3, preceded by killer new single "Peace and Quiet". Featuring The Do Good Assassins, the tune features dynamic musical ebbs and flows, while Hawkins' distinctive voice and poetic lyrics remain nicely to the fore. This is a reworked version of a song from Ron’s 2007 album Chemical Sounds. Already rotating and charting on CBC Radio 2, this song ranks with his very best, and it certainly whets our appetite for the new album.
The band kick off an Ontario tour with three nights at The Drake in Toronto, Feb. 5-7. For a full itinerary, check here.
