Pick Me Up
Brett Kissel's status as one of Canadian country music's brightest young stars was solidified with his 2014 Juno Award as Breakthrough Artist of the Year. That came on the heels of his hit major label debut album Started With A Song (the video for the title cut scored over 500k YouTube views), and we now fully expect the 25-year-old's eagerly awaited follow-up, Pick Me Up, to follow suit, in both sales and industry accolades. Advance single "Airwaves" fared well, becoming Kissel's sixth consecutive Top Ten song, and there are plenty of other contenders for hit status here. Notable guests on the record include Hunter Hayes and Carolyn Dawn Johnson. From early traditionalist roots, Kissel's sound has become more mainstream, but he has made the transition convincingly. Look for him to break Stateside too, as he's now managed by industry heavyweight Bob Doyle, a key player in Garth Brooks' success. Kissel fulfilled a lifelong dream last month by performing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Kissel's major summer tour was a smash (over 500,000 concertgoers), and he will perform on the CCMA Awards Gala in Halifax on Sept. 13 (he's up for four awards). That'll be followed by his 40-date cross-Canada “Airwaves Tour”, beginning October 10 in Simcoe, ON before wrapping up in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, on November 28. Check his site for details.
