The debut release from imaginative singer/songwriter L.A. Foster, Saudade is the culmination of a decade-long stint in Montreal. In a statement, she explains that "in my 10 years here, I have partied, loved, lost, studied, worked, failed and ultimately succeeded, all that leading me to create L.A. Foster". She is now heading out, to parts unknown, leaving an impressive EP in her wake. Foster employs an interesting range of beats and rhythms on the four tracks here, with cumbia, reggaeton and house music all being drawn upon, while the production of Young Galaxy's Stephen Ramsey is clean and coherent. Of note: saudade is a Portuguese word that refers to a feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia.

Foster launched the disc at The Emerald in Montreal recently. In a cool concept, she promised all those in attendance they'd get a postcard (and an EP dl code) "sent from wherever she is in the world" at a later date.
