Say Yes

Invariably, the discussion around Burlington ON power trio Say Yes starts with the band’s pedigree –Jordan Hastings played drums in beloved post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire and Adam Michael was in Juno-winning punk group Saint Alvia. Both groups called it quits around the same time. The pair though, friends for nearly 20 years, banded together with newcomer Michael Zane on bass and just did what came naturally. It’s this sense of kinship that makes the band’s debut self-titled EP so endearing; their propulsive and fuzzy electric riffs are hardly a novel conceit, but it feels like they’re having a blast working it. Look to tracks like punchy rocker “M.M.M” for evidence.  So let’s choose to focus on where Say Yes is going, not just where they’ve been.

The band plays Riot Fest in Toronto on September 6. Details over on Facebook.
