Toronto duo Dog Is Blue call their sound "garage folk", though we see it as leaning towards the lo-fi rock 'n roll of acts like Jonathan Richman and Violent Femmes. Whatever the tag, the results are fun on their new EP She's Lying, a follow-up to 2011 full-length Tortoise. Paul Watson and Laura Heaney split the vocal chores, and they come up with refreshing new takes on Beach Boys song "Aren't You Glad", and Robyn's "Dancing On My Own". They also rework one of Tortoise's best tracks with the very funny slacker-ish "People (Fuckum remix)". Fun stuff all round. Trivia item: Watson sells custom-painted guitar fuzz pedals and Heaney is a visual artist.
Dog Is Blue close out a short Ontario tour at The Garnet in Peterborough on May 24.
