Sincere is actually the first full-length offering from esteemed T.O. rapper King Reign, but work in Brassmunk and such earlier solo EPs as 2009's The Audacity of Hope, Reign Music and 2013's Reign Music Vol. 2, showcased his skills. The recent single/video "Killer" had a Rob Ford theme, clearly a fertile area to explore! The King is an eloquent storyteller with a smooth lyrical flow, and he tackles social and political issues here, including the police killing of Sammy Yatim. Sincere has nice sonic variety too, thanks in part to the input of such ace producers as Rich Kidd, Nick Holder, DJ Agile, and Gameboy.
A star-studded album release party at Toronto's Rivoli earlier this week also featured Brassmunk and Slakah the Beatchild. Long live The King!
