EDM production duo Zeds Dead may be best known for their dubstep bass wobbles, but their new EP Somewhere Else reveals they have a more ambitious side and strong dance-pop capabilities. With an impressive guest list on the record, including Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell, Twin Shadow, D’Angelo Lacy, Bright Lights, and Sean Price, a larger emphasis is placed on melody than past efforts, giving DC and Hooks new space to flirt with genres. Their sizable fanbase is definitely feeling it – the EP immediately knocked Deadmau5 off from the #1 spot on the iTunes Dance chart, and it cracked the top 10 overall album iTunes chart across Canada. Now that their Mad Decent label owner Diplo is high-in-demand as a producer, Somewhere Else suggests that Zeds Dead could eventually be as well, crafting dance beats for pop's A-list.
Last week, it was announced that the duo will perform at Rifflandia Festival in Victoria BC on September 11. Addition Canadian dates include Toronto August 15 and Calgary September 5 for Mad Decent Block Party, Penticton BC August 2 for Boonstock Music & Arts Festival (if it's not cancelled), and August 16 Montreal for Île Soniq Festival.
