Take Out a Twenty and Live Life to the Fullest
Young Hamilton band Harlan Pepper (yep, a band, not a guy) are making moves fast with their infectious brand of roots-inflected rock. The follow-up to 2010's ace debut, Young and Old, Take Out a Twenty And Live Life To The Fullest is a strikingly accomplished and eclectic work, drawing on such diverse inspirations as The Yardbirds and Travelling Wilburys. Producer Colin Linden captures their fresh energy perfectly. Thankfully, no Mumfords or Lumineers comparisons are valid here, and it's pleasing to see vibrant single "Gimme Love" is already a CBC hit. They continue a Cameron House residency in Toronto (every Tuesday in March), then touring out West in support of Corb Lund in May will spread the word. This is a band of immense potential (the lads are just 21), and the present is mighty impressive.
