These Days

No, Island People aren't a Caribbean band (though there is also a group of that name from Barbados). This band hail from Hamilton, and they have a fun, slacker-ish sound that has drawn comparisons to Mac DeMarco and Michael Rault. Their debut mini-album, These Days was recorded with producer Dan Edmonds on his ½-inch tape deck. Edmonds used to be in the late, great Harlan Pepper, a band whose vibrant sound wasn't far removed from that of Island People. The relaxed vibe of the record should put you in a summery state of mind here in the middle of winter.

Island People will rock the house with a hometown show at the legendary This Ain't Hollywood on December 23.
