It seems that Montreal-based psychedelic rockers Elephant Stone are actually better known in the U.S. and Europe than here, but that deserves to change. Last year's self-titled album was a winner, and they're back firing on all cylinders on Three Poisons. Their sound has been termed "raga 'n roll", for the sitar playing of mainman Rishi Dhir (ex-High Dials) is a key (and fascinating) component. Advance single "Knock You From Yr Mountain" has a great groove, and we really dig "Motherless Child" (an original tune, not the classic spiritual). A limited vinyl release features hand-numbered colored vinyl for the first 500 copies. We've caught Elephant Stone live on multiple occasions and never been disappointed, and we now recommend adding Three Poisons to your musical diet.
After an Aug. 30 gig at L'Escogriffe in Montreal, the band have extensive tour dates in the U.S. and Europe.
