Tidal Wave

It wouldn’t be appropriate to call Vancouver quartet Young Liars surf-rockers, but the sea is definitely on their minds with first full-length, Tidal Wave. The Nettwerk-signed indie-electro rockers build upon previous EPs, expanding and redefining their sound with new buoyant afrobeat dance-pop tinged tracks, many of which are focused on the west coast, the water, and the waves. “Only place where I felt home/Quiet moments that I stole/The sea is alive with me”, sings lead vocalist Jordan Raine, revealing his vulnerable side. On the closer, “Ocean Arms”, the connection is made sonically, awash in rolling, endless synths. This ebullient collection isn’t quite a concept album, but is linked together neatly thematically and is especially well sequenced.

Young Liars will play at the Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival in Vancouver on July 12 along with Lightning Dust, Humans, Aidan Knight, The Grapes of Wrath, and Ben Sinister. More info at Songkick
