We Come In Peace

The Canadian hardcore punk legend  is back for another round on We Come In Peace. This is the Vancouver group’s 18th studio album and features appearances from Headstones' Hugh Dillon ( “Who The Hell Do You Think You Are”, “Bring Out Your Dead” and “Boneyard”), Dead Kennedy's Jello Biafra (  “We Occupy”) and Billy Talent's Ben Kowalewicz ( “Do You Wanna”). Material such as “We Occupy” was written as a reflection on the recent Occupy Wall Street Movement that saw the band help rally support iin Ottawa, Regina, and Vancouver. For more on the making of the album, including the challenges of recording bagpipes, read this featured article in the Vancouver Sun.

Bandleader Joe “Shithead” Keithley is playing select dates in a mini unplugged tour (Red Deer on Sept. 27, Calgary-28, Edmonton-29, and Kelowna-30).  According to the band newsletter, D.O.A. is in the process of booking dates for a coast-to-coast tour that should start sometime in October. The band's official website has loads of content and is the place to check first for concert dates.

  • Hey everyone, Tuesday May 14th is BC's provincial election. Please get out and exercise your democratic right. Many people have gone to jail and some have died so you would have the right to vote. I also urge you most strongly to vote strategically. The Green Party CANNOT win. I urge you to vote NDP so we can get rid of Christy Clark. Our environment, our people in need and our economy can't handle another four years of the BC Liberals.
  • Hi Folks,

I will be playing a solo acoustic show as a fundraiser for NDP
    Vancouver-Point Grey candidate David Eby.

    Date: Saturday April 27th 8 PM - 11 PM at Saint James Hall, 3214 W 10th, Vancouver.

I will also be playing a solo acoustic show as a fundraiser for NDP Vancouver-False Creek candidate Matt Toner.

This time it is on Friday May 3rd 7 PM - 9 PM at Go Studios, 112 E. 3rd, Vancouver.

    Cheers Joe Keithley
  • Lots to talk about my friends and some catching up to do. If you have not heard by now, Canada's punk godfather Joe Keithley was defeated by a razor thin margin of 5 votes in his NDP nomination race, so he is not running in the May 14th B.C. election. But Joe urges all you B.C. residents to get out and vote "Many brave people went to jail and some of them died for your right to vote, so get out there and vote!" - Joe Keithley. He will be performing at various benefit shows and rallies for B.C. NDP candidates leading up the May 14th vote. So get out there and help boot the B.C. Liberals out of office. In the future, Joe has not ruled running for office again, so stay tuned.

The D.O.A. Farewell Tour continues this fall. Canada's legendary punks will tour through the USA, from the Midwest to the East Coast to Texas this September. The godfathers of hardcore will continue the farewell tour this October in Europe. While on tour the Men of Action will play a ton of D.O.A. classics as well as songs from their landmark new album WE COME IN PEACE, which has been getting rave reviews as the band's best album since War on 45. You can get that release at www.suddendeath.com

Sudden Death Records is delighted to release the new Jenny album Love & Politics. Jenny, hailing from Calgary, Canada, is an explosive four piece group, that adroitly combines tales of love, politics and if I dare say, the Canadian soul. They blend heartfelt folk and riveting punk that gets you four chords and comes perilously close to the truth... "I shared a stage with Jenny last year at The Palomino in Calgary, I had no idea what to expect. An hour later I knew that they were the best live band I had seen in the last couple of years, the sheer raw energy and spontaneous fun they generated was amazing, when you combine that with their stellar songwriting and the vibe between them and the audience, there was only one choice. As soon as the show was over I offered to sign them to the label." - Joe Keithley - Sudden Death Records / D.O.A. "Jenny has virtually come out of nowhere, to make a knockout album, could be on of the best of 2013, by my count, a solid four stars".

    - Barry Weiss, New Alt Press

Lastly, but not least, Joe's 16 year old son Clayton Keithley is carrying on the family creative streak. Clay is an aspiring filmmaker, please check out his new short film noir: Strangers in the Filth. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3prcUgEcms. While you are at his YouTube channel Golden Rifles (Pictures) take a look at FUBAR: A Short War Film, you will see Clay's dad as a Vietnam Vet. Incidentally, Joe has always said he's thankful he was born 3 years too late and 30 miles north of the border, otherwise he might not have come back from that unjust, horrible war, but you can catch him in that role in Clay's war movie.

    D.O.A. North-West Farewell Tour Dates:

Thursday, August 29th, The Shakedown, Bellingham, WA
Friday, August 30th, El Corazon, Seattle, WA
Saturday, August 31st, The Hawthorne Theatre, Portland, OR
    Enough said.
