When Flying Was Easy

The guys in Broken Social Scene are certainly prolific. With their revolving door line-up, the group has had associations with Stars, Metric, Feist, Kevin Drew, Apostle of Hustle, and many more. Founding member Brendan Canning himself was involved with By Divine Right, Len, and before his BSS days – Cookie Duster. After over a decade hiatus, Cookie Duster has reunited for When Flying Was Easy. On the record, there’s a powerful dichotomy between the garage rock and lo-fi feel against the insanely catchy choruses that open themselves to repeat listens. Poppy enough without being sappy, indie enough without completely shrugging off possible mainstream appeal, it fits in a great middle ground that any fan of the current Canadian scene would be remiss in overlooking. A feel-good album just in time for summer.
