An avid poet from a young age, with a deep love for music, Mary Caroline first picked up the guitar at the age of 15, with the sole intention of writing songs. It wasn’t until she moved to Yellowknife, NT at the age of 23 that she discovered the artistic community that would encourage her to pursue music professionally.
Now at the age of 29, Mary Caroline is getting set to release her second full length album, Who's in Control, on May 12, 2012. The majority of the album was recorded in an old church that was transformed into the Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre (ARCC). Anticipation is high for Caroline’s second album, with more provocative lyrics and a more pop driven essence than her debut album, Snow Blindness.
Caroline’s six year journey in music has lead her to perform in the Yukon, BC, Alberta and Ontario. She has been featured at the Alsek Festival, the Works Art and Design Festival, Snow King’s Castle and the Bushed Music festival, to name a few. Mary Caroline plays as a solo artist, in a duet with Cellist, Anne Marie Guedon, or in a full five piece band.
Mary Caroline’s heart is also closely tied to her community. In the fall of 2010 she brought her music to children in the remote communities of Fort Liard and Lustel k’e, NT. Caroline also Organized the Tseko Celebration of Women in Music in Yellowknife for three years, where she worked with award winning artist, Veronica Johnny, to bring guitar and self esteem workshops to the women of Yellowknife.
