Windows and Stones
Hardworking rock 'n roll quintet The Mandevilles seem set to make moves with new disc Windows and Stones. It has real commercial potential, especially given the production presence of industry heavyweight GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine). He captures the band live off the floor, preserving the energy of their live shows. Spearheaded by powerhouse singer Serena Pryne (Daniel Lanois is a fan), they have a roots-tinged rock sound that has echoes of Sheryl Crow and Tom Petty. Pryne and guitarist Nick Lesyk were formerly in the ill-fated band Oliver Black, and that experience shows here. "The setbacks and dark times have only made us stronger”, Pryne says. The band already have a couple of European tours under their belt.
The Mandevilles were a hit at the CCMAs in Edmonton last month. They play Greg Frewin Theatre in Niagara Falls on Nov. 7.
