Word On the Street
The Word On The Street is that the album of that name from Dany Laj and The Looks is a fine collection of power-pop accented songs. The hardworking combo recently signed to notable indie label Squirtgun and they're already out there gigging behind the record. The songs are rather autobiographical in tone, with the nomadic Laj explaining in a label press release that they "tell the tale of the Northern Ontario kid trying to find his way south, ultimately to Montreal, by way of Sudbury, North Bay, Toronto, and everywhere in between, with stories of finding love, cross-country tours, and broken-down vehicles”. Punchy guitars and keyboards and female backing vocals complement Laj's earnest and energetic vocals nicely.
These road warriors begin a 12 date Ontario tour in Cornwall on May 23, one that includes a Toronto gig at The Silver Dollar on June 5. For a full itinerary, go here.
